The Lucado Life Lessons Study Bible

I recently joined a site called BookSneeze.com that sends me complimentery books to read and review and my first review is of The Lucado Life Lessons Study Bible: Inspirational Applications for Living Your Faith: New King James Version.

The Lucado Life Lessons Study Bible is a wonderful bible and so easy to read! It is filled with so many wonderful tools that will guide you and help you in your everyday walk with Christ; a topical index, devotional index, Spiritual Growth Verses, just to name a few. One of my favorite aspects of the bible is the breakdown for reading through the bible in 2 years. I have always wanted, and tried numerous times, to read through the bible but if you have ever tried it you know that unless you are 110% committed you probably won’t make it that far. It is hard to make it through Genesis especially when you get to the genealogy and such, it is just hard to understand and really take all in but the Lucado Study Bible is so easy to read and understand that it kind of makes you go “oh that’s what it meant”; I read verses that I have read numerous times that just “clicked” this time. I decided when I got this bible to just read straight through it. I am still in Genesis but for the first time in a while I can honestly say that I look forward to reading some every single chance I get.

The Top 10 Reasons I Hate Your Kid

(Now before you get your panties in a wad this is meant as a funny...or is it? *wink*)

The Top 10 Reasons I Hate Your Kid

http://thestir.cafemom.com/toddler/113009/the_top_10_reasons_i

I'll admit it: I never liked kids before I had them. I figured that would all change once I became a mother, but oddly, it didn't. Now, I just dislike them for a variety of whole new reasons. Sure, they can be useful to fill out party guest lists and lessen the cost of one-on-one private school education, but really, I could do without them entirely.

Do you disagree? Perhaps you won't after you read this list ...

1. They spread illnesses. Colds, pink-eye, hand, foot, and mouth -- every nasty sickness that my child has ever suffered from has stemmed for some other little snot who forgot to wash his germy hands. And, mark my words: If I ever find the child who caused the lice outbreak at our house last year, it won't end well. Live in fear kid, live in fear.

2. They teach bad habits. My kids never bit a nail or told a dirty joke before they made friends. Now? It's potty mouth and bad habit central.

3. They're bad influences. I could always count on my kids to eat pasta with tomato sauce. It was one of the few ways I had to sneak veggies into their beige colored diets. That is, until we had a "friend" over who proclaimed that red sauce was disgusting and mine haven't touched the healthy stuff since. Bring on the butter.

4. They're filthy. Sure, my kids may be messy and unbathed, but it's familiar dirt. Unfamiliar grime is just so much nastier.

5. They're loud. My kid is loud too, but it's not nearly as annoying as your kid. Especially at restaurants and movies.

6. Their poop is nasty. It's not that I love wiping my own kid's ass, but someone unrelated to me? Gag me.

7. It sucks when they break things. Yeah, it sucks when my own kid breaks things, but it's so much worse when it's someone else's. Do you ask their parents to help replace it? Punish them? It's just so complicated and irritating.

8. They're mean to my kid. Last week, some punk bit my youngest twice and another asshole tripped my middle son. I can't even imagine how I deal once they're out of pre-school.

9. They are incomprehensible. My kid may speak nonsense, but I get it. The gibberish the other kids speak makes no sense at all. And, frankly, it's annoying.

10. Their parents think they are just the most precious and irresistible creatures in the universe, and obviously my children have already claimed that title.

*All that being said, this sums up my day today. haha*

Christmas 2010

We had a wonderful Christmas this year!! Mom and Daddy (or Mymy and Poppy, as they are better know around here) came up, as did Seth and Eric and Abe and Margie. It was so much fun and everyone went a bit overboard I think but hey, isn't that what you are supposed to do??

I hope that everyone had as blessed a Christmas as we did.

Merry Christmas and I'll talk to you next year!!

What an Awesome God I Serve

Tonight was not only the first day of winter but a lunar eclipse and. Meteor shower. I looked online to see what time Abe couldn't find much other than "cloud coverage might mask the eclipse." Needless to say, it didn't. Mark called me at about 320 and told me to go outside. I did and wow. Just wow. It was so cold that I was shaking and my toes were frozen in no time but I couldn't take my eyes off of that lunar eclipse...nor the meteor shower!!! Every time I was about to go inside I would see another shooting star. It was amazing!!!!

Black Friday and then Some...

Black Friday was amazing!! Nothing super special really but it, as a whole, it was great! I got everything that I went out for, which made it all the better!

On a different note, McKenna loooves her Poppy! Poppy is my daddy and McKenna adores him! Makes me smile. :)

December 3rd was McKenna's Jacksonville Birthday party and it was a blast!! We had a cookout and it was so much fun!! And of course, Poppy was there so that made it better. At one point that weekend I was holding McKaela and McKenna wanted me to hold her so she came up to me and says "up", I told her that I was holding Sissy and she goes "Sissy Poppy Up". LOL Too smart for her own good, I tell you.

We came back from Jacksonville on Saturday because McKenna had a birthday party to go to on Sunday. Colin, her friend from The Little Gym, had his birthday party on Sunday so we couldn't miss that.

Monday the 6th was McKenna's birthday party at Chick-fil-A and it was so much fun! Just about everyone showed up and those who didn't let me know. It was SUCH a good time! I'm not sure who had more fun, me or her. Haha

December, overall, has been quite busy but definitely wonderful!!!

Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and...Possum Killers?

First off let me start out by saying Happy Belated Thanksgiving! I hope that you all had a great day! My Thanksgiving was wonderful! My parents and one of my brothers drove up and it was so good to see them and spend time with them! We ate and laughed and relaxed and just enjoyed being together.

Mom, Eric, and I went Black Friday shopping while Daddy and Mark stayed with the girls. That being said, I have been awake since 930a Thursday morning and it is now 1145 Friday...I'm exhausted BUT I had an absolute blast! First off, on the way to Kohl's (our first stop) I hit an opossum! Um....OMG!!! He was sitting in the middle of the road and I couldn't swerve but had he stayed where he was he would still be alive...but nnnoooo, last minute he decides to walk right under my tires. I felt bad. I feel bad. I did what I could do but I was not going to endanger myself or anyone else for an opossum. But still! Oh my goodness. Haha

Actually, let me blog more tomorrow. I really am exhausted and cannot keep my eyes open anymore.

Awesome truck and gorgeous car!!

On our way home from Orlando we passed this truck. It was too awesome to pass up the photo-op. (If you can't really read the writing on the window it says, 'Jack it up, fat girls can't jump." LOL)

Then we passed the Lamborghini...beautiful!

Halloween

What a great time! We went to Orlando for Halloween Horror Nights and oh my goodness, what a blast! You'll never guess who was there...coming straight at me...THE GENTLEMEN!! You know, from the episode "Hush" on 'Buff the Vampire Slayer'!! Now, if you know me you know that is my FAVORITE episode..BUT...The Gentlemen completely freak me out!!! So Mark and I go through our last haunted house of the night and we turn a corner and who do I see? Yep, a Gentlemen. And if that wasn't enough, we were leaving the park and we had to walk through this area where "monsters" were just hanging out. I was watching this guy get chased by one and laughing when I look straight ahead once again and who is walking towards me? You got it, a gentlemen!!! WALKING. TOWARDS ME.!!! This is when I do something amature and something you never do unless you want something to jump out at you...I CLOSED MY EYES! OMG, what was I thinking?! I realized it right away and opened my eyes, hoping "no one" had seen...I was too late. I open my eyes and see this hand in front of my face and no sooner my eyes got opened fully he jumped at me. No, not a gentlemen, I don't know what he was but yes, I screamed. Haha All in all, it was a blast!!!

The next day we went to Islands of Adventure, I believe it was, and went to the Harry Potter exhibit. I didn't get any pictured or anything because there were SO many people! It was insane! I did, however, do what I wanted...have some Pumpkin Juice and a Butter Beer.

You may be wondering what we did with the girls, my parents came to Orlando with us and kept them. *smile*

Sunday we took the girls to Trunk or Treat at the church and they had a blast! Well McKenna did, McKaela was tired and slept through most of it. Haha They were dressed as Disney Princesses; McKenna was Belle and McKaela was Aurora.

It was a wonderful weekend!!!!

Oh man...

I thought that after our big trip when I did so good at blogging I was going to be able to keep it up...yeah, life happened. Haha Nonetheless, let's try this again! My app is working once again so I can't use that excuse anymore. Haha

Anyway, its that time of year...the leaves are turning, its chilly outside, we're gearing up for Thanksgiving and...BLACK FRIDAY! I have already started my list and agenda. I am ready! I am looking forward to Thanksgiving, let me tell you. The fat girl in me is salivating already!

Well, I am going to blog more (even if no one reads it...boo on you all!) but right now I need to go feed my dogs. I have more to say but it will have to wait until later. A mommy''s work is never done!

Home Sweet Home

We have been home for a couple of days now but...a wife/mother's work is never done; we got home on Sunday and went to the grocery store that same day, an hour or so later. I got straight to work in getting things put up and all (though it is not done yet) and shopping and...goodness. I woke up this morning, today was Little Gym day, and I felt as though I had not slept at all so we slept in. Yes, I feel bad, but anyway, we made it home!! We had a good time but it was like I walked in the door and my body went "aaaahhhh". It was INCREDIBLE!

Both girls grew so much on this trip, the last day or so in Round Rock we really got to see; McKenna was talking UP. A. STORM. McKaela learned to keep her paci in her mouth. It was an amazing last few days!

Anyway, it is late but I wanted to update real quick and let you all know that we are home. If I think of anything more from the trip I will post later.

Road Trip - Not TOO Much Further!

That is basically what I see when I look out the window...no, its not a fireball, it is just the sun coming up. Crazy, huh?

We passed another bad wreck in Georgia. This one we didn't actually see but they closed down a part of I-20 and re-routed everyone. However, on our detour we believe that we saw the car, or one of them at least, on the back of a tow truck and if it were, in fact part of or THE reason for the closure than it was pretty bad because that car was all messed up.

Things are going pretty smooth now and I believe that we have 3.5-4 hours left. We're getting there!!

Road Trip - Homeward Bound

Well, we are in Louisiana, it is 11:27pm and all in all it has been a good trip. Both girls are asleep again so that is nice. I know that I should be trying to sleep but...I don't know. I kind of feel bad sleeping when Mark is driving. I know that he slept all day in order to drive but...still. I don't know, I do.

We have seen two pretty bad wrecks so far. Not like seen them happen but one we did see right after, the only emergency vehicles there were the firetrucks. That wreck was a car fire; all that was left was a frame I think Mark said. The other wreck must have been really bad as well because they closed the road. Luckily, we were going the opposite direction. Craziness!

Well ok maybe I will see if I can fall asleep. Not that I want to leave Mark awake but I am fading fast.

Road Trip - Headed home

We are finally headed home! I can hear my dogs and my bed calling me...the thing with that, however, is that being that we should get home tomorrow morning I will not get to succumb to my bed until tomorrow night. *yawn*

Anyway, we spent the last two days in Round Rock and had a blast! We got into town at dinner time on Thursday and ate dinner and visited and relaxed. The next day we really just hung out and visited. Aunt Jeanie, the girls, and I went to Hobby Lobby to get some headbands and then up to the church to show off the babies. That night Uncle Tim and Aunt Rhonda and Rebecca came over for dinner. It was good to see them. It had been quite a few years, actually. Then today, while Mark slept so he could drive today/night, Aunt Jeanie, the girls, and I went to HEB to get a few things and then to the park to feed the ducks. Mark woke up about 2-230 and we loaded up and left.

In the short amount of time that we were in Round Rock McKenna started talking even more! Some things she has said now and then she is saying more often and other things she has not said before; please, thank you, Jeanie, Mimi, shoot (my bad...Haha), just to name a few.

I forgot to add this is my last post but the morning before we left FW for Round Rock the girls and I were talking to Aunt Judy before she left for work and after she left I asked McKenna if she could say "Aunt Judy". This is how it went...

Me: Can you say Aunt?
McKenna: Aunt
Me: Judy
McKenna: Juby

Haha It was super cute!

Anyway, we had a good time in Round Rock but I will be glad to get home and back on schedule. Right now, both girls are sleeping and Mark and I are listening to Harry Potter. I wish I was sleeping but I am navigator. Sleep? Who needs sleep? I'm a mom! ;)

Road Trip - Hellllllooo DFW!!

Well, we said goodbye to OKC and hello to DFW on the 5th. That night all of my cousins and aunt and uncles came over so we were all able to visit. It was so nice! I have not been home to see everyone in...gosh, at least 2 years? Last time we came through it was only for a couple of hours so it doesn't really count. We didn't get to see hardly anyone at all. So this was a much needed trip home.

Yesterday Mark and the girls and I went and picked up Amanda and we all went to The State Fair of Texas!!! I will say that I didn't get the whole "fair feeling" but I think it was because...I don't know, really. Haha It was fun seeing all of the animals though! We saw a sow that had just had piglets and a pot-bellied put who just had piglets. Talk about cuteness!!!

After the fair Aunt Judy and Uncle Jim took us out to dinner to a real good Mexican restaurant. Yum!! It was nice to get to spend time with them.

Today is our last morning in FW before heading to Round Rock this afternoon; we are going to take Amanda out to Olive Garden for her birthday lunch and then we are headed to Round Rock. Aunt Jeanie and Uncle Karl get in from Africa at noon so we are going over to Mimi and Pappy's while they sleep some.

Well I better go finish getting ready so we can get on the road.

Road Trip - Transmission

I forgot to update yesterday but we got our SUV back! They had to completely rebuild the transmission...Oy...BUT it is still under warranty so we didn't have to pay a thing. *whew* It is amazing how much better it runs! Haha I didn't realize how off the car was until we got it fixed and then it hit me, "it runs so much better!" LOL

We have now said goodbye to OKC and are on our way to say hello to DFW! It has been a good road trip but I feel like I have been away from home for SO LONG! I am starting to get ready to just get home. And I miss my dogs.

Well, back to keeping an eye out for a Jack in the Box!

Road Trip - Car Trouble

Ever noticed that whenever you go on vacation that is the time that your car breaks down? That is what happened to our Escape. At times during the trip it was almost like we were stepping on the gas while in neutral...not cool. Anyway, we took it into the dealership and they are fixing it and it will hopefully be done by Monday night. *crosses fingers*

Road Trip - We Made It

Well we made it to OKC in one piece. I didn't get much sleep but I figured as much. We are all exhausted. And I need a shower. Oy. So here I am, torn between taking a shower and taking a nap. Oh the choices. Maybe I'll shower and then nap. We'll see. Well I better try and get McKaela down for a nap so that I can, in fact, shower and/or nap.

Road Trip - 2am

Well here it is, 2am and I am still up. Surprised? Me too; however, I have been the navigator and McKaela is awake. Man oh man I am going to be tired today. McKenna is finally asleep and McKaela was asleep until about 30 minutes ago. She never does this at home so I know it is because we are in the car and not in bed. :( I miss my bed. I miss my dogs. *sigh*

Well the trip so far has been pretty uneventful. It rained for the first few hours before we finally drove out of it. It is just us on the road right now. As we were going down the dark highway the headlights hit something in our lane suddenly...two orange cones. Random. There was no road work anywhere near.

Ok we had to stop and fill up the car...guess what...McKenna is awake now. Man oh man, this is going to be THE longest day.

Well I need to tend to McKaela, she is getting fussy, but before I do I will leave you with a picture that I took in Alabama (though I think it showed up at the top of the post...haha).

How 'bout them Gators?!

Oh my goodness, these Gators are going to give me an ulcer! They have won every game this season so far but my goodness it has not been smooth sailing or pretty. It almost seems as though they are still mourning Tebow and the other seniors who graduated. Well, nonetheless, they won and I have complete faith that they will come together and we'll see the Gators we all know and love.

Today was a pretty good day, if I might say so myself. We filled up the pool and played for a while and then came in and the girls napped and we went back out for a bit. It was nice. A little too cold for McKaela but we all had a good time nonetheless.

So we are going to the State Fair of Texas in a couple of weeks!!! I am so stoked!!! I absolutely cannot wait! All the years that I lived in Texas and I never made it to the fair...went to the Stock Show and Rodeo multiple years, sometimes multiple TIMES a year, but never made it to the fair. Go figure.

So Mark and I finished 'Lost'...O.M.G...so much happened and it was so overwhelming but so good. From what everyone was saying I expected to still be so lost (no pun intended) and disappointed but I actually felt closure. Sad. But closure.

If you want some good movies to watch, 'Prince of Persia' was good (well I didn't get to see most of it because I was putting the girls to bed but Mark said it was good), 'Letters to Juliet' was a good one as well. I really liked that movie. Then there is 'Marmaduke' and that was a cute movie too.

A movie you probably would not care to see is 'The Chosen One'...we are trying to watch it now but its not going too well. Not a very good movie and VERY slow. Oy!

Ok well I guess I will try and get into this movie again.

It's Game Day!!!

(well, it was.)

I had been waiting all year for this day...COLLEGE GAME DAY!! GO GATORS!! *whew* It is finally football season and I couldn't be happier!! Mark on the other hand...could care less. LOL Yes, that's right, in our house I am the football freak. haha For instance, today was the first Gator game of the season and Mark was playing his video game. On our only TV. WHAT?! Don't worry though, EVO came through and I was able to watch the game live! *smile* For those of you who might be wondering, EVO is my phone. *smile* Anyway, I decked the girls out in their Gator Gear and we had a blast! Gators won, by the way. I won't say it was a great played game but they won and that is all that matters now. haha

So things are going well, nothing too much to update on but it is a new month and although updating doesn't only have to be, and hopefully occurs more often than so, it is time to update. McKaela is 3 months old and growing up so fast. And she talks all of the time!! Well, "talks". She is quite the conversationalist.

McKenna is growing up so fast in every way! Not only will she be 2 in December but she is already potty training and super smart AND a "little mommy". A couple of weeks ago. I needed to go grocery shopping but was waiting on the girls to wake up from their nap. McKaela woke up first and about 5 minutes later McKenna woke up (it never fails..LOL) I had sat McKaela down on the couch so that I could go up and get McKenna and when I came back down I sat McKenna down on the opposite end of the couch and went to get dressed to go. Well, McKaela had started crying by this point and was not happy with me and the next thing that I hear from the other room is her cries get muffled. I rushed back into the living room and McKenna had climbed over to the other side of the couch and had picked McKaela up and had her in her arms and was rocking her back and forth (such as I do when I am not in my rocking chair). I was shocked and in awe and I just stood there for a moment before I thought "get the camera!!" So I did. I got some pictures, some video, and when I was sure that all was well I went back to finish getting dressed. Then it happened....it got completely silent...I walked back into the living room, curious, to find that since McKaela had still been crying McKenna had grabbed her paci and gave it to her and then proceeded to rock her and in turn had gotten McKaela to sleep. TO SLEEP! Yes, my 1 year old got my 3 month old to sleep all on her own. It was amazing and oh so sweet!

Well I suppose that I will leave you with some pictures. Enjoy!

Ciao!

Where Did Summer Go?!

I am sure that I have started the last few blogs like this but in all honesty, nothing new is going on! haha Same 'ol, same 'ol! I just can't believe that Summer is over!! When I was growing up Summer started at the beginning of May and we went back to school the beginning of September! I don't know what's up with schools these days but these kids are getting gypped!

We are all doing well. McKenna is a hot mess...an amazing hot mess but a hot mess nonetheless. LOL McKaela is growing like crazy! Still tiny but every day I look at her and think "you're getting so big!" She is amazing too and smiling all the time!! She smiles and coos like crazy and I love it!!

As you know, we have McKenna in The Little Gym and tomorrow is the start of the fall semester! I am super excited! She has a friend named Colin who has been in all of her classes since the beginning and they are in the same class this time too so that will be super fun!

McKenna is teething...ouch! Not fun. At all. And I am not even talking about for me! haha She had at least 3 that I know of and 1 swollen bud coming through. Poor baby. She handles it like a champ though. I probably would not have noticed had she not gotten a runny/stuffy nose. She is a little fussy but not enough to really notice most of the time.

Mark and I have been trying to move McKaela up to her crib but that child would rather sleep on the loveseat. haha No joke. The days that I put her in her crib she wakes up as she loses her paci, on the loveseat she will sleep all night. Guess where she has gone back to sleeping lately! haha We'll get her up there but right now it is just choosing your battles and with the schedule that Mark is on right now we choose the easy one. haha

Well it is late and I better get to bed so I can wake up for Little Gym tomorrow!! Hope you all are well!!

Ciao!

P.S. I know, I need to post some more pics, I will do that....tomorrow maybe? SOON!!

Oh the life!

I know that it has been a while since I have updated but although things have really just been same ol' same ol' they have kept me pretty busy! Things are going well, however, and I can't complain one bit! In fact, I am sitting in a beautiful, clean, quiet house as we speak and the only noise that I hear (other than my typing) is the sound of "Heidi" which is on TCM right now!! I love this movie! It reminds me of my Biggie and Papaw though because they are the ones who introduced me to it.

Well let me see, last weekend was a 4-day weekend for us so we went to Jax and had a blast! Mark and I were able to go out just the two of us, we took the girls swimming..well ok, McKaela didn't get in the water but McKenna did and had a blast! We had a little get together with some of my family and Mark and I played Mexican Train Dominos for the first time. It was a lot of fun. I came in second. I was in first until the end and then I got a bad hand and the points just seemed to add up! It was fun though. Then it was back to reality.

Mark bought me a Nook!! I absolutely love it!! I assumed that I would after all of the reading about it and such but after I got it I love Love LOVE it! I have read more this week than I have in the past year probably! Good times.

McKenna and McKaela are doing wonderful! McKenna is just growing up so fast! She is an amazing little girl and I just can't get enough of her! She is really smart too; she gets that from Mark. LOL For real though, she never ceases to amaze me. It is fun being able to play chase and tag and Play-Doh and such with her. I also got her a computer game that she can play so we have been playing with that too. The game teaches everything from colors to shapes to letters and numbers, she does really well with it!

McKaela is getting big already and she is only 8 weeks old! She has incredible neck control, as she has from the beginning actually. She has not had her 2 month check up yet, actually she won't be 2 months until Tuesday but still, anyway, so I don't have exact measurements and all but she is just growing away! She finally fits into Newborn clothes (more or less) so that is exciting. haha There are a FEW 0-3 month clothes that she can wear but those are mainly pajamas.

I am going to put a plug in here so bear with me..LOL..you know those people who are just CREATIVE? You know, those who can take a piece of nothing and turn it into something magical? I wish I was like that. I used to go to church with a lady who is like that and I look at her blog and see all of her recent "creations" and she makes them all look SO easy! *sigh* I envy her. haha She made McKenna a blanket and it is beautiful! It was one of my most favorite shower gifts that I got (I don't know that I told you that, Amy...haha)! Anyway, if you want to see what I am talking about you should check out her blog, http://littlewhiteschoolhouse.blogspot.com/ She is great! Also, this is short notice but she is having a giveaway on her blog for a super cute fairy skirt and headband! The link for that is http://littlewhiteschoolhouse.blogspot.com/2010/07/party-pics-and-giveaway.html I will say that if any of you wonderful friends happen to read this, enter her giveaway, and ultimately win than I will be happy for you...covet you...but be happy. (You wouldn't want me to covet now would you? LOL) For real though, you should check out her blog, she is Supermom!

Ok well I guess I better get off here and get back to cleaning the kitchen.

Ciao!

Our Family of Four

Things have been pretty busy but not bad in the least! Mark is working nights' this week so it has been just me with bath time and bedtime. All in all I think that I have done a pretty good job; a little tweaking every now and then but a pretty darn good job. Getting the house all clean is my next task to tackle...that is where it gets tough because I don't clean until after McKenna goes to bed and by that time either McKaela wants to be held and/or I am so tired I just don't feel like doing a thing other than relaxing. I will get it though! I do get a little done each day so it will all happen; after all, McKenna and McKaela will only be this age and at this stage for so long and after that you can never get it back so I am cherishing every minute.

Speaking of McKenna, she absolutely adores McKaela. Before McKaela was born I was worried that McKenna would be a little jealous...yeah that was a crazy thought. LOL She LOVES her little sister! She does not like it when McKaela cries, she runs to get her paci and gives it to her and then she pats her and she leans down and kisses her...she is just an amazing little girl!

On another note, last weekend was my mom's 10 year anniversary at North Jax and they not only recognized her in church but also had a luncheon for her afterwards! Mark, the girls, and I drove down for it, too, and I am so glad that it worked out! I got the invitation while I was still pregnant and Mark and I talked it over and decided that depending on when McKaela came we would drive down and it all worked out! I am so glad that we could be there. I mean, 10 years?? That is a big deal! She has been through a lot in these last 10 years and has a lot to show for it. She definitely deserved to be recognized!

Let me see...I guess not too much else is going on, just life, really. Everyone is doing and everything is going great!

McKaela Elise

This will be short and sweet for now but I just wanted to update and let everyone know that on May 27, 2010, McKaela Elise made her debut into the world weighing in at 6lbs7oz, 18in long, and absolutely perfect! Labor and delivery went very well! We were even able to go home after 24 hours so that was nice!
McKenna is adjusting very well. When she first came to the hospital to see me she just kind of looked at me like "Um...I don't know about this and what are you holding?" haha But she ultimately loves her little sister and is my big helper.
I can't really tell who McKaela looks like but one thing is for sure, she has her sisters mouth. There is no denying. She makes faces and such that are the spitting image of McKenna. It is crazy to see the girls together and think "Oh my goodness, McKenna used to be that small!" We had to pull the preemie clothes back out and everything. It is incredible how fast they grow!!
Well here are some pictures so far. I am sure that you have all been waiting! *smile*

Changing Churches

When we are children growing up we never realize just how hard changing churches is. Sure, it is rough leaving your friends and the comfort of what you have known but at that time in our lives we can't fully fathom the importance or extent of what our parents go through when they try and follow where God wants their family to be. I am coming to that realization now.
When I was a child my family moved from Birmingham, Alabama to Fort Worth, Texas so for the first 5-6 years of my life all I had known were my friends and teachers, the smells and sights of Roebuck Park Baptist Church. After we got to Texas we, of course, jumped right into church. I do not remember if we "hunted around" or if my parents just knew what church we were going to go to, the first church that I remember, other than visiting my grandparent's church and my uncle's church, is Travis Avenue Baptist. I can't tell you how my parents "knew" to go there but that is where we ended up. Travis is where I, to this day, call "home". I made friends after we got there that I still have to this day (more about Travis in a bit). We were there for a few years until we were led to First Baptist Burleson. That church seemed to be a good church, it was smaller, closer to home, and to me the people there seemed real nice. Of course, I was young, like, 4th maybe? Now, don't get me wrong, I made friends there that I still keep in tough with today BUT I learned a hard lesson at First Baptist Burleson...not all people are nice. I remember many Sundays and Wednesdays that I went home crying because I didn't have any friends. Literally, not one person talked to me. I couldn't even begin to count the nights that I cried in the back of the car on the way home trying not to let anyone know that I was crying. Remember now, I was in the 4th/5th/6th grade. At that time in your young life you should not NOT have any friends...but that was me. I remember one night on the way home from church I was looking out the car window crying and I got caught; mom caught me and I told her that no one has talked to me and I had sat alone all night. After that, and my memory may be skewed a bit, but I don't remember going back to First Baptist Burleson. Let me just mention that I did have some good times and, again, I do still keep in touch with a handful of people so it wasn't always as bad. Once we left First Baptist I not one person, Sunday School teacher or anyone, ever called to check on me or ask where I had been. Nothing. This fact will come back into play later on.

After we left First Baptist went back to Travis. *sigh of relief* Of course I had to rebuild my friendships and essentially start over but I had friends here and I knew people would talk to me. Boy was I right! By the time that we got back I was in the youth group and it was amazing! My youth minister was Johnny Derouen and he was amazing! I never felt that I was "coming back", I felt that I had never left. Kind of. Of course being in middle school at this point I went through the same feelings and insecurities that every middle schooler does but it didn't take long and I was right back in the comfort of my own skin. This is where I grew and matured the most; not only as young woman but as a child of God. For instance, we never went on these fun and games mission trips. My first mission trip was to the tenderloin area of San Francisco. Now, if you do not know what the tenderloin area is, it is right in the heart of it. When we first got there before we were even able to get off of the bus we were told that we, especially the girls, were not allowed to go anywhere alone and in fact since we were not allowed to park in front of the mission but had to park around the block the guys were to be the girls "body-guards" in a sense, and walk on the outside of us. Did I mention that the guys in my youth group were ALL gentlemen? And most of them weren't even forced to be! haha Anyway, another example of the tenderloin area is that the mission that we were working with was right next door to a gay porn shop. And when I say "next door" I mean attached. And one more, sitting on the bus one day waiting to go back to where we were staying a drug deal went on right outside the window; so close that we could see the colorful pills...and to them it was nothing. I will never forget that mission trip. It was probably my favorite one. But those are the kinds of trips that we took!

Another trip was to Idaho. I know, that one doesn't sound like it would be hard but the prep for that trip was intense. We had to know that know that we know what God says and in what context. In order to talk to and share the gospel with the people we had to be sure of ourselves because just to hear them talk you would think that we were talking about the same thing. There are a lot of differences between the two, Christianity and Mormonism, but this post is not about the two, it is about the fact that we as teenagers had to know beyond a shadow of a doubt what we know and how to talk to adults even about Christ and how they too could meet us in Heaven. It was a hard trip. So those are two of the things that we did that made me who I am today.

Johnny was not one of those youth ministers who just wanted to be your friend. He didn't play favorites. He, in my book, was THE youth minister of all youth ministers and one that every other youth minister should look up to and strive to learn from. I have Johnny to thank for his part in shaping me into the woman that I am today. Johnny is still around but not a youth minister anymore, he now teaches at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary is Fort Worth, Texas. Anyway, he wasn't one for easy-peasy mission trips and such, we had a blast and always laughed and had a good time but we, as students, were there to share the Gospel and to learn ourselves. Our "prize" at the end was that we went out and shared God's Word with people who may not have ever heard otherwise. We were always doing things with other churches and fellowshipping with not only other youth who believed as we did but youth in general where we might be able to encourage and maybe even share Christ. We went to Catholic mass so that in return those youth would come to a function that we had, we invited neighborhood youth to come in as they were and just hang out, various "little" things that may bring one person to a personal relationship with Christ as well as challenge us to draw near to Him and grow in Him.

The Summer before my Senior year in high school my family moved to Jacksonville, Florida where God led my family through my mom being offered a job as a preschool minister. At the time I did not see the goodness that came out of that move. I was not happy about moving, did not want to move, and did not want have to start all over again in a church that for all I knew was going to be another First Baptist. I was selfish and only thought about how it was affecting me, I didn't even think about my parents and how hard it must have been for them. I mean, they were having to start all over as well! Our whole family was in Texas (well majority of them), we didn't know anyone in Jacksonville, if it wasn't God's will than why in the world would my parents WANT to leave Texas?! Texas is home! But we did, we left and moved halfway across the country. North Jacksonville Baptist wound up being a good church as well and I quickly jumped right in. There were some rough times, don't get me wrong. I definitely had to find my niche and let people just roll off my back but all in all it was good to me. It was not the youth that I was used to, both in the people and in the worship and, well, everything, but if you remember, I had already learned that not all people were nice and I had already learned that worship was a personal thing. In a way I felt so much more mature, both physically and spiritually, than many of the youth there. (No offense to any of you who might be reading this). It wasn't a stuck up thing, I didn't think of it like that, it was just that I had already been through so many different experiences in my young life that many of them had not. I learned a lot about myself at North Jax and I was given the opportunity to do things that I may have never been able to do otherwise. For instance, I was invited as a senior in high school to go on a mission trip with the adults to Trinidad and Tobago! I was the youngest and it was only by invite that I was allowed to go. It, again, was a hard trip but it was nothing that I wasn't used to. This is what I liked! This is what I was used to! I was also given the opportunity to go on a trip to the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina and that, too, was another experience that I loved! Again, it was super hard work, clean up after a major hurricane?? Yeah. But it was right up my alley!! Those two trips will always hold a place in my heart and be ones that I look back on and say "I did that."

Up to this point in my life I had learned so much about myself but still had no clue about what it really meant to "change churches" when you are the one who is leading and not following. Remember, I had followed my parents and trusted in them for guidance as to where God wanted us. THEN I got married and moved to Virginia where Mark was stationed at the time. Uh-oh...it was now MY responsibility to find where God wanted me to be. It took me a little bit to figure out that God will show me but I have to seek Him for the answer first. Ouch. At last I did seek Him and the 2nd church that I tried up in Virginia wound up being IT. I tried one that was just...no. LOL I mean, it wasn't bad but it was NOT where God wanted me and I knew that as soon as I pulled into the parking lot. So the next week I was led to Common Ground Community Church and that was it. That was where God wanted Mark and I to be. We loved that church and in fact still love that church! They still hold a place in our hearts. Common Ground wasn't a big church, it wasn't fancy, but it was a place where we were welcomed with open arms and open hearts and most of all, where God wanted us for whatever reason. There was no "finding your niche" or "fitting in", it was like from the first step we took into that building we had been there forever.

Then...we moved. We were restationed to Charleston, South Carolina and, if you remember a few posts ago, I posted about how I was broken and God was really telling me that I needed to seek Him out for a church and stop making excuses and getting discouraged. I also posted about a church that I had been visiting and how the people were nice and the preschool was nice and all and we would see where that went. Well...here is the latest on that. Let me just interject here that this church it not "ruled out" or anything and what I am about to post is not a dis or anything about the church. Ok, that being said, I fully believe that when you are at a church that you are supposed to be at and where God wants you to be that everyone will enjoy it and strive to seek Him and want to go. At this church that I had been visiting, I liked it, I liked how they were with McKenna, the people were so nice, BUT Mark was not convinced. He didn't NOT like it but he was not fully comfortable there and where he would go "for me", I don't want that. I want him to want to go. I want him to feel comfortable. Just as at Common Ground in Virginia, we were both comfortable and knew that was where we were supposed to be. So a guy that Mark works with goes to another church near us and loves it! He, too, had tried the church that we had been visiting and did not feel comfortable. So he essentially told us that we should try this other church out. Let me interject here that Mark is not on the same set schedule every week; he does not work 9-5 Monday through Friday with the weekends off. His schedule changes each week and therefore he may or may not be able to go to church on Sunday. The church that we were visiting only had one time, 9am Sunday school and 1030 worship, BUT this other church has a Saturday evening worship at 6, a Sunday morning at 9, and a Sunday morning at 11. More options! Sure there may be weeks that none of them work but chances are more times than not one of those times will work. Now normally when we miss a week or two at the first church I get an email asking how things are and if we need anything and letting us know that we are missed. Well, we missed a couple of weeks and I got the email making sure things were ok and asking me how we can be prayed for and all. It took me a  day or so to reply since it was a particularly busy week but I did reply and told her that we were fine, McKenna was fine, the baby was fine. I did ask her to pray for something, which I don't put my prayer requests out there for everyone, especially if I don't know you. I want to know that you are going to pray for me and pray genuinely. But I told her and then I let her know that we had been invited to attend another church and we were praying and trying to find where God wills us to be. Valid, right? And you would think that it would be understood. Well, I have not heard a thing back from her and she usually responds right back. I am all for benefit of the doubt that maybe she has been busy but 2 weeks at least? And not even to say "I prayed for you". It just makes you wonder. I had already talked to my mom about what to say if they were to ask about us and she helped me to put into words what I told you I wrote in that email. We talked about the fact that "no, they don't seem like that; they don't seem like they are all about membership." So I was kind of shocked when I never heard back. As I said, it just makes you wonder. You remember my First Baptist Burleson story about how no one ever called me after we left? I told you it would come back into play. I am not saying that I rule out churches based on phone calls or lack thereof but, again, it makes you wonder. Was it all a facade? Is this how they treat their guests if they don't join? Do I want to be associated with something like that? And, how truly genuine were the people?

Maybe it has nothing to do with being genuine in this case, maybe in this case it is a case of the young mindset of the church. I don't know. What I DO know is that I now see just how hard my parents had it when they moved my brothers and I from Roebuck Park in Alabama to Travis Avenue in Fort Worth, Texas, to First Burleson, and ultimately to North Jax in Jacksonville, Florida. Changing church is nothing new to me but to a child it can be a big deal and my main concern, other than following God's will, is McKenna and doing what is best for my family.

Changing churches is never an easy feat, I see that now. It can cause a lot of mental and spiritual turmoil but, as I have been tested and reminded these past few weeks, if we will do as He says in Psalm 46:10, "Be still and know that I am God", than He will show us what we need to know. That is where I am now...in the stillness. No, I don't mean that I am sitting at home waiting on God to just hit me with what church to go to but I am in His stillness that He will show me when and where the time is right.

*whew* Ok, I know that this was a long one but I hope that after reading (if you made it this far) you got to know a little more about who I am and Whom I serve. Ultimately, I hope that you, too, when something comes up that you just don't know what to do about or are so torn about that you will just be still and know that He is God and He has everything under control.

It's Summer!

The weather has been so nice here lately! McKenna and I have been able to start back up on our walks and go outside and play...sure, it gets hot but what better thing to do than to play in the water!! That is what we did today and it was so much fun!! There really has not been too much going on out of the ordinary so we are just going about our days. I just wanted to stop in and post a few recent pictures!

Ciao!

Just Mere Weeks Left!!

Oh my goodness has this pregnancy flown by!! I am down to 5 weeks and some change! That is just insane!! Mark and I have been busy getting everything that we want to get done...done! The biggest thing that we wanted to get done was to get our room cleaned up. Since no one but us has any reason to be in there it has kind of been some extra storage for things that don't really need to be in the garage yet don't have a home yet. I spent all of yesterday cleaning and throwing away and getting it done. There is a little more that I wanted to finish up today but I am not so sure that will happen. I think I worked so hard yesterday that today I just want to play. haha

Well, we went, for a fourth time, to see if McKaela would cooperate and let us get her picture but alas she did not. haha Little Miss has been stubborn with her picture being taken. LOL We do have some really cute ones though and I am just fine with that.

Not too much to report, really. I just wanted to upload a few pictures of Mark's new hobby. I mentioned in in a previous blog and wanted to post those pictures now. They are going to look SO good when he gets done with them all!

Ciao!
