It's been an adventure in the Harris household

It all started out Monday morning when McKaela fell out of the truck. Yes..fell out. of. the. truck. She was climbing into the truck to get into her seat so that we could go to her dance class. I was watching her but was on the other side of the truck and looked down for a moment and she fell. I FELT the vibrations on the concrete. I remember thinking "Wow, what was that?" And in that thought I looked up at McKaela and she wasn't there. At about that time I hear McKenna going "ooohhh" and McKaela crying. It was a bittersweet feeling because I was so glad she was crying and moving and at the same time I was scared o death because I knew that she hit her head and I felt so bad for letting her climb. :( So I call my Aunt Joyce, who is a nurse, and get her to tell me ALL of the signs that I need to look for. Great. Good. Got it. I watch McKaela like a hawk all day and she is fine. Eats, drinks, plays, everything. Nonetheless, I put her to bed that night as normal. So, as we all know, the first 12 hours is the most critical, right? Right. Enter the 12-hour mark: McKaela wakes out of a dead sleep throwing up. Everywhere. I clean up, clean her up, and she is still throwing up. Every few minutes she is throwing up. I wake Mark up and ask him what he thinks because internally I am freaking out that she is throwing up because of the head injury. So we call the after-hours line and they say they will call us back within the hour. McKaela is still throwing up every few minutes so we decide to take her to the ER. Actually, Mark takes her while I stay with the other two girls who are sleeping. While at the hospital they check her over and the doctor says that he doesn't think that it has to do to the head injury but he wants to do a CT scan to make sure. Ok. Done. As much as I hated that she had to go through that, I was (and am) so glad that he did it. Official results came back...the vomiting did NOT have anything to do with the head injury. *whew* I was so glad, that I could not stop smiling. Come Tuesday, threw up that morning but I thought that it was due to her downing a whole cup of water first thing in the morning. We took McKenna to dance and came home and she was fine until about dinner time. Come dinner time she started throwing up again. Wednesday she laid around all day and slept. Literally. She woke up at about 6 and by 830 she was passed out. Threw up. Moved couches. Slept. Threw up. Moved chairs. Slept. TOTALLY lethargic. So I called the doctor and they finally called me back and told me to take her right back to the ER. Great. Ok. So Mark gets home and takes her, I call the babysitter and then head up there. I am there 10 minutes and the babysitter calls....McKenna has now started throwing up. Nice, right? So now McKaela has the flu and McKenna has the flu. Awesome. I stayed with McKaela and just held her as she slept and all. Poor baby was hooked up to IV machines and all. So sad. Mark went home to relieve the babysitter while I was there. About 10 o'clock the doctor discharged McKaela...though I am pretty certain that he was reluctant. He definitely didn't want to let her go but in the end he did. By 530 Thursday morning *I* was throwing up. Yay. Luckily, my wonderful mother decided that, after she heard that McKenna was sick, she was coming up to help. *HALLELUJAH!!!* All in all, it is now Friday night and we have ALL been vomit-free for over 24 hours now...WOOP WOOP!!! It has been great having Mom here because yesterday I literally could not keep my eyes open and being able to sleep was incredible!

So that has been my week and although we are not all up to par yet, we are getting there. I am just hoping that Mark and Maisie don't get it. *crosses fingers* I hope that all of you are happy, healthy, and humble. Ciao!

Let's Try This Again

So I have been sucking lately at blogging. It is UNACCEPTABLE! So I am resolving to blog more. Things have been pretty same ol' same ol' lately, which I am ok with. :) The girls are getting so big. McKenna is 3.5 and a little mommy. However, we are in the midst of the 3 year old power struggle so that is frustrating. She is in dance, ballet and tap, and LOVES it! Even today I was waiting on the blu-ray playing to kick on and was just bouncing and she said "Those are quiet bounces" and started bouncing with me. She really enjoys it. McKaela will be 2 next month and though I was starting to get a little antsy that she wasn't talking yet, she has just exploded in the last 2 weeks! It is amazing. :) She, too, is in dance and has a good time. They do a bit of ballet and creative movement and even though she doesn't always participate (she gets a little bashful and silly sometimes) she loves it! Maisie is 8.5 months and phenomenal! She is sitting and babbling and eating table food. Just amazing. I also have her in a Mommy and Me gym class and she enjoys it. Oh and McKaela is potty training!!! She is doing so well too!! She even tells me when she has to go when we are out!! I am so excited!!!!

Mark is as amazing as usual. He's enjoying being Chief. ;) It is an interesting dynamic, that's for sure. I enjoy it though! I feel as though I have been preparing for this since we got married. Of course it is different than being 1st class but on the boat I brought dinners and sewed patches on for the guys and did whatever needed to be done that I could do for them. It was nice.

Well, I guess there is not too much more to update on right now...oh wait...did I ever mention when we go back to sea duty? Mark has to report in December so we will probably be moving at the end of October or November. I think that the girls and I are moving in with my parents while Mark is deployed this time and then when he gets back we will go house hunting. We are keeping this house in Charleston and renting it out. I am hoping that we can find a good family to move in. *crosses fingers*

Ok, well since Maisie and napping and the other two are watching 'Beauty and the Beast' I am going to see what I can get done around here. Ciao!

There are just not enough hours

In church for the past month or so the pastor has been talking about prayer and how to have an abundant prayer life. Well, I'll be the first to tell you, I do pray constantly throughout the day but my prayer life has a lot of growing up to do, per se. Is it bad? Of course not! Do I praise, thank, confess, and pray for others as well as for my needs? Yes! BUT I will also be the first one to tell you that all of that is usually spread out over the day and occurs in between gym, dance, and housework. Also, I don't read and study my bible daily either and although I want to, it is one of my downfalls. I say all of this to say that God spoke to me this morning in that I found myself convicted about it, both bible study and prayer life, as I have been lately, and as I was sitting there praying and confessing to God what He already knew, that I have not been doing what He has called me to, I found myself thinking "ok, where can I fit in reading my bible and a time where it is just God and me? I could do it in the mornings but, no, I wouldn't follow through. I could do at night before bed but I am usually so exhausted..." And then it hit me, instead of asking "When can I fit prayer in my day?" I should be asking "when can I fit my day into prayer?" One of Satan's biggest and easiest ways of grabbing us is to make us busy. I know that as a mother of 3, ages 7 months, 2, and 3, I wake up running as soon as my feet hit the floor and I go go go until I lay my head down at night. And even then it is usually after I tear myself away from whatever task I am trying to finish from the day. How many times have we heard, "there just aren't enough hours in the day?" Of course there are! God created days and He made all things just as He wanted them. It is up to us to figure out how to fit everything into the time that He gave us. After all, He will never give us more than we can handle, right? So maybe it isn't that we don't have enough hours, maybe it is that WE are trying to do too much. Not that God has given us too much. He has given us a sound mind to make our own decisions and choices and sometimes He allows us to take on more than we can handle so that we will, in turn, turn back to Him for answers and guidance. Well, I am sure that I could go on and on but I'll leave it at that and ask you, are your trying to fit God into your day or your day into God?
