Yep, you read that right, McKenna is 1 year old now!! Where has this time gone? It has been a very different but blessed year! I have learned a lot about not only her but myself! I am stronger than I ever thought that I could be. I don't need as much sleep as I once thought that I did. I have more patience than I ever thought that I did. And one of the biggest things I have learned is that I am human and I make mistakes and as much as I want to be a perfect person and perfect mom I am not going to be...no matter how hard I try I am still going to mess up, I an still going to lose my temper, and, Heaven-forbid, I am going to say things that I probably should not have said or should have said in another way. None of that means that I am a bad person or a bad mom, it just means that I am human and I am still learning. Another big lesson I have learned this year is that God really is my strength and He is always there when I need Him. He may let me go through things, such as nights on just a few hours of sleep, and I may get mad at Him for "not being there" or "not listening to me" but He is alway there and He always hears me. Oh and after the fact He always shows me "See, you asked and I answered...just on my terms" and then I feel bad. haha So those are a few of the things that I have learned this past year.
McKenna had her 12-month well baby check up on her birthday (I know, what a birthday present. Mean ol' Mommy.) and she is growing beautifully!! She weighs 19 lbs even and is 29 inches long. She had to get 3 shots, well 2 and then her flu shot, and they were supposed to take blood. I HATE when they have to take blood. She has had it happen before when she was sick and she remembers. Whoever says that babies don't remember things like that from one visit to the next is wrong! We walked into the room where they draw blood and she knew exactly what was going on and where she was. In the end they were not able to take any because she has such tiny veins that they could not get a good one and one that they thought they had McKenna tried to pull her hand away and it caused the vein to roll and they lost it. So they didn't take blood, they just used the levels from back in September when they had to take blood and the doctor said that they were fine so they would try again at her 15-month check up.
After the doctors' appointment we came home and packed for Florida!! We were heading down there after Mark got home to have McKenna's birthday party with friends and grandparents and great-grandparents. It was such a blast!! McKenna had such a good time and let me tell you, the girl racked up!! LOL Like, I am kind of scared of Christmas because I am like "How can I compete with birthday now??" LOL We had a cupcake theme and her cake was one big cupcake. It really was such a great time! Here are a few pictures of the birthday girl!
